Faculty Recruitment
ADVANCE Recruitment Goals
In 2002, NMSU was awarded $3.75 million to advance women academics in the sciences and engineering. The current focus of this grant is to assist department heads in targeted departments with identifying, attracting and recruiting top-notch diverse faculty candidates for tenure-track positions in their departments. In 2007, we have a number of different assistance mechanisms to facilitate this process, including supplemental start-up funds. Under this funding mechanism, ADVANCE will match the department/college contribution by two times the amount contributed up to a level of $50,000.
In addition to supplemental start-up funds, ADVANCE can provide consultation to search committees in areas such as help in identifying and meeting with potential diverse candidates, assistance with advertising, and setting up meetings with other faculty.
The first step in the process that allows departments to access the funds is to fill out the on-line survey. The information collected in this survey is required for ADVANCE reporting and analysis. It also provides us with baseline and comparative data to evaluate respective funding requests from departments.
